Category Archives: A New House

One of the fun things one does with a new-built house is the walk-through. This is your chance to be as nit-picky as you want. About everything.

We noted slightly askew wall plates and outlets. A minor scuff on the wall. A bit of smutz on the windowsill . . . all of it.

The place looks amazing.

Here’s what the hardwood floors really look like:

and at the border of the kitchen:

New House Pics (7/21)

I stopped by the new house yesterday to meet our would-be painter, Michael. We have CARPET!

Want to see? (Of course you do!)

Here’s the first glimpse:

Isn’t that color gorgeous?  It’s so warm — just what we wanted. (And it’s a nice complement to the hardwood floor . . . which you can just barely see there at the bottom of the picture.)

This what it looks like in the bedroom:

It’s hard to see, but the walls are a dark creamy white.

For some reason, the tub was out:

But the guest bath looks amazing!

So does the kitchen.

The backsplash we chose really pops:

hmmm…. let me show you a closeup:

That’s it for today!

Call us crazy

Last night we handed in our earnest money for a new house. Today we’re looking for a home loan.

Yeah. I know.

It all started Sunday when we went out to look at a new development being built a few miles away. We do this every 6 mos or so, just as an exercise in checking out what’s available. Its a great conversation starter about our goals and expectations.

We found a great home, of course. But things got serious ONLY when we were offered the deal of a lifetime: no $ down, no closing costs, a 30 yr fixed rate loan at 5%, and no PMI.

The kicker, of course, is that we need to sell our current home. We’re going to sell for less than the appraised value, and are willing to make a wide range of deals to get this place gone. Nonetheless, it’s a gamble.

Clearly, we didn’t have enough to do.
