Wedding FAQ

You’re getting married?! That is so awesome!

Why thank you. :) Do you have any questions?

I certainly do! When is the wedding?

April 28, 2012. We thought about a summer wedding, but: Mayans.

Where is the wedding?

Canlis.

Where is the reception?

Canlis.

Hang on a second…

No, seriously, it’s going to be great. The photo below isn’t great for picturing this, but the ceremony is going to be in the area to the right, and then dinner will be off to the left. We’ll do the deed, march out, hide for a moment, and march back in. Or something. You’ll love it; swear!

The Penthouse at Canlis

This is where the magic will happen.

What does “formal attire” mean? Are the dudes all going to look like penguins?

Nope. No penguins. Apparently with the trend towards casual dress everywhere these days, what used to be “formal” is now considered “black tie.” Now “formal” just means “go to meetin’ clothes.” In other words: men in a suit or, at a minimum, blazer+slacks+shirt+tie combo, and the ladies in a dress or nice slacks outfit as you see fit.

You didn’t mention shoes for the men; you know that smart-ass teens and pre-teens have been invited, right?

Yes, but as far as I know they all have parents.

Speaking of shoes – do I need my dancing shoes?

Nah, not really. Once the ceremony is over there will be music, and if you’d like to get up in the bay window area and cut a rug you certainly can, but there’s no DJ, no official dance floor, and I can’t promise that the music won’t be slow & arrhythmic purposely so that dancers will be easy to laugh at.

Hey, I have one or more beautiful children. What’s the deal with my precious angel(s)?

We’d love having your kids at our wedding ceremony. The thing about our reception dinner is that there’s just going to be the one, long table, and the vibe we’re going for is far more of a dinner party as opposed to dinner theater. There’s no separate kid’s table, menu, or activity plan. We’re not trying to be exclusionary, but we are trying to have a wedding that represents us, a DINK couple in their 40s. Give us a call or drop us a line if you want to talk about options…

Sorry to be gauche, but if I’m going to get you a gift, is there a particular place I should be looking?

We love loot and we’ve set up a couple of online options for you to peruse:

  • Amazon.com — a few things are only available through here
  • Wishlist.com — a wide collection of items we’d love to get.

Seriously, a gift is not required. Your company is what we’re hoping for, more than anything else.
